Club stand entries did us proud we had stand pullers galore. John Ankerman’s Silver Aero was admired even on show build up day, the car had its debut at the N.E.C Motor Show (Stand 189) in 1980, and this is its first return visit. Based on the Cavalier Sportshatch 2 litre, this 2.4 litre turbo charged car typified the new bolt on approach to extra power, unfortunately being the only one produced it is not viewed very often, John is a custodian of Vauxhall history. Peter’s Chevette hatchback was first registered in 1975 it is believed to be one of the first Luton produced cars, later in 1975 production moved to Ellesmere Port. The car was purchased in 2001 after many hours spent on restoration; the end result was evident on our stand today, a showroom example. The flame red Mk3 Cavalier S.R.I owned by Kevin had its first visit to the N.E.C today, in fact to our knowledge it’s the first showing at the N.E.C of a Mk3 Cavalier, producing 130bhp with its 2litre 8 valve engine it is more than capable of holding its own in today’s “ not a minute to live traffic “. Kevin has owned the car for 12 months, and is only the third owner, the suspension is out of this world and a joy to drive says Kevin. Lou and its proud owner Richard are no strangers to major events and not only being the oldest Cavalier in the world it also attracts attention with its Signal Yellow paint job, which by the way was the first cavalier to receive this colour. Apart from promoting the club at the N.E.C, Lou had a feature article in the Auto Car magazine coving the 1975 Motor Show at Earls Court, and more recently in Practical Classics magazine 2007 edition. Space restricts me in reporting how great a success this show was for our club, not only with new members joining on the day but many many more taking away information. We also made several agreeable contacts with commercial interest parties, watch this space.
